Seagull at the seashore

At the Pier
by Tom Schmidt

What hidden treasures
have we yet to hunt down
as we travel hand-in-hand
through this lakeshore town

Ice cream parlors from times
long ago long past
filled with childhood flavors
unsurpassed

Chocolate milk shakes
sipped slowly by the lake
peaches ‘n cream a dream
we both partake

At the pier of the sea
of blue-turned-white
seagulls search around
for a landing site

As we sit embraced
frozen in time
like the water before us
serene sublime

Our lips telling stories
only we can hear
through misty windows
from our watch at the pier
