Dark room

Fear Factor
by Patricia Petro

So haunting was the darkened night
so chilling that I found
I petrified with morbid fright
at every eerie sound

Be brave walk on I told myself
there’s nothing here to fear
it’s just a house and you’re alone
it’s just the wind you hear

Yet there I stood afraid to move
half rooted to the floor
when somewhere past the shadows
I heard a creaking door

I thought that I might see a ghost
if I should turn my head
I told myself so much for brave
and ran like hell instead
