My Music
by Christine Magee

I used to sing all the songs of the day,
traditional melodies with plaintive air,
touring the folk clubs, guitar in hand;
Plaisir D’ Amour and Scarborough Fair.
Learning the words and practising chords,
sharing it all with my friends.
We were young and lucky, our spirits free,
never thinking this freedom could end.

But life can get tougher as we get older;
we love and lose, the troubles start.
That’s when I began singing the blues
and I sang them straight from my heart.
Rhythms changed like the rhythms of life
and the words became sad and raw.
These songs were my voice, I sang them loud
til I chased my blues out of the door.
